USA vs. International
Arnold Palmer Cup
Arnold Palmer, Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation, Golf Coaches Association of America and the Women’s Golf Coaches Association have partnered to create an inclusive event where the finest collegiate golfers in the world compete.
The Arnold Palmer Cup began at Bay Hill in 1997 and is named in honor of legendary golfer Arnold Palmer.
The event started as a Ryder Cup-style tournament (USA vs. GB&I) and seeks to pass Mr. Palmer’s values and integrity on to the next generation of golfers.
In 2003, the Arnold Palmer Cup expanded to include all of Europe.
The Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking was used for the first time in 2013 to select the first six golfers for both sides and teams were expanded to 10-man squads.
In 2018, the event will have teams representing the US and International – and will be the only major golf tournament featuring men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
Since its inception, 91 former Arnold Palmer Cup participants have gone on to earn cards on either the PGA or European Tours. It is hardly surprising that 19 competitors in the Palmer Cup have gone on to represent Europe or the USA in the Ryder Cup and over 40 have claimed more than 150 victories on the PGA or European Tours.
The United States leads the series 10-9-1.
"I had long thought that an international competition such as this would enrich the lives of youth through the universal bond of the great game of golf." said Arnold Palmer about his namesake event. "The game brings out the best in us, and the best will always bring out their games at the Arnold Palmer Cup."
